ALOHA

We're Maria and Shaheer

We discovered the magic of South Kona when we first arrived on the Big Island in 2004. We fell in love with its wild raw beauty in the lush vibrant landscapes and underwater canyons, coral and creatures of the clear blue waters of Kona. Most of all, the ALOHA SPIRIT has made this place home.

When we are not working on projects, chatting it up with guests, or planning our next getaway, we can be found submerged in the ocean. Swimming, surfing, scuba and free diving are what this adventurous couple does for fun and fitness.

As citizens of the island of Hawaii, we say "kama‘aina," meaning "I am a child of that which feeds me." ... "I therefore have a duty to it. I need to malama (care for) that which sustains me.”

In other words, kama‘aina is a fully intentional way to live. At Kona Mountain Refuge we strive to live intentionally and be conscientious of our collective impact by being as eco-friendly as possible. We use eco-friendly products such as energy-efficient lightbulbs, organic Oeko-Tex certified bedding and towels, and non-toxic cleaning products. We also supply all of our guests with filtered water, reusable bottles and reef safe sunscreen.

We are grateful and honored to introduce you to our beloved island and to be your hosts and guides in this special place.

We can't wait to meet you, share our local secrets, and make sure you have the adventure of a lifetime at our Kona Mountain Refuge!

5 stars all around. I would never stay with anyone else. We booked our repeat stay with Shaheer and Maria many months in advance because our first experience with them was perfect and this stay was even better.
